Nolan or Nol as his friends called him sat in the bar with his thoughts and a bottle of whisky. He needed a crew to help with his new found career option. An independent now days couldn't get any sort of respectable job and stealing from the alliance was more fun anyway. He sat and scanned the bar. He had left a message with a few people that he knew that would spread the word that he was looking to meet crew members here in this small alliance bar.

He watched as some Alliance soldiers walked in and stood at the bar having a drink. Oh how he would of loved to stand up right now a shot the men down, right there.He stayed his hand and instead picked up the small glass and drank the liquid in one quick movement.

Katylinn sat in the heavy shadows cast by broken lights in the west corner of a tavern. She had heard that there was a former Independent looking for a crew, and her own ship was getting far too hot to remain with. With the recent Alliance attention the crew of the Dim Reaper had been receiving, she didn't trust any meeting outright. At her left elbow sat a tumbler of water, though most thought it vodka. She stiffened slightly at the sight of two Alliance soldiers at the bar, but relaxed when she saw that they were only drinking. Her attention was drawn to a tall, middle aged man in Browns that was sitting on the other side of the tavern. He too had stiffened slightly at the guard's arrival. Casting another look around the bar and seeing no other threats, she casually made her way over to his table and slid onto the scarred wooden bench. "Mind if I join you, friend?" she asked in a smooth, deep voice that could turn sensual with but the slightest inflection.

Isaac wandered into the bar, he was sweating from his brisk two mile walk into town
after his crew had dumped him onto the planet. Isaac was wearing his signature black suit
but had the jacket slung over his shoulder and carrying a suitcase of his items which the crew
had kindly given him before shoving him into a space pod, his gun was hanging in it holster
and was clearly visible. Isaac took a deep breath and walked over to the person nearest to him,
it was an older gentleman who was keeping a close eye on the alliance troops.

"Excuse me sir, may I ask for a moment?" Isaac asked in his charming tone, "what do you want?"
asked the old man in a dry throaty voice. "Do you know of anyone hiring crew?" Issac spoke with
confidence in his voice, "I believe that gentleman is" the old man said pointing to a man in brown,
"thanks" Isaac said tossing the old man a coin, a brown coat thought Isaac to himself, interesting.
He walked over to the table and went to speak when a woman's voice cut him off,
"Mind if I join you, friend?".

Katylinn saw someone approaching out the corner of her eye. She kept track of him out of her peripheral vision, though she did not see him as any kind of threat. He had started toward the table she was approaching after he had spoken to the barman. Definately not Alliance she thought to herself as she sized him up. His weapon clearly visible and one arm free was cliche in its obvious danger and she rolled her eyes as he came to a halt at their table. "What can I do for you, cutie?" she asked in her most seductive tone, turning her body so that he would catch the full force of her sculptured body.

Sitting in a back corner of the bar, Charlie nursed a tankard of beer. Her hair was tucked up into the cap she wore, her dark overalls were baggy and oil stained, and her large backpack was battered and nondescript. The look was as anonymous as she'd likely ever get.

She'd left the last ship on the planet a few weeks before. There may be honour among thieves but, if certain lowlives had their way, there wouldn't be any underwear. A knee to the crotch (repeatedly) had been the only thing to stop that so-called first mate from having his own way. Still, wasn't the first time and likely wouldn't be the last.

One of the few traders around this part of town had let her know about a new ship looking for crew. Their description of Law had made him easy enough to spot but, even without, the slow gravitation of people towards his table would have been a dead giveaway.

She lifted her tankard and headed over, her backpack swinging up onto a shoulder as she crossed the room. She slid into a spare spot of the bench and smiled pleasantly. This Law guy looked to be a Browncoat - chances are he'd be a decent guy to work for.

As she looked them all over, eyes lingering just a moment too long on certain areas of certain people. "If this crew needs a mechanic, I've got the job. No way I'm letting you not hire me with this much pretty around."

Nol was watching the alliance soldiers from under his hat as people started to drift towards his table. Nolan just smiled slightly as he thought of how the word he had given thomas had spread fast. First to take his gaze away from the soldiers laughing and joking around was a familiar face at least a few times back in the Unification War. Nol looked at her as she made her way to him trying to remember a name.

"Mind if I join you, friend?"

"Not at all, Katylinn isn't it?" he said to her as the name popped into his head. As she sat he offered her a cheers as he put down another shot. "Things started to get a little crowded haven't they?" he asked her still eyeing the soldiers every now and then. He noticed another man standing staring at them he looked over to the man, "Ya going to stand there all day or are ya going to take a gorram seat?" he asked the man with a smile offering the man a drink. Then another visitor came to the table.

"If this crew needs a mechanic, I've got the job. No way I'm letting you not hire me with this much pretty around."

He eyed the woman. "Well I guess thats what we are here for now isn't it?" he said suddenly getting serious again. "Take a seat Ma'am. Okay now as you may have heard I have acquired a legal ship but have not a crew to fly her, that's where you come in. That is if you are in?" he said raising an eyebrow to get an answer. "Okay shall we get some privacy?" he said as he got up and moved towards one of the enclosed areas away from the rest of the crowd.

Katylinn bowed slightly in respect as Nolen greeted her "Aye sir, it is. Its good to see you again"[/b] she said amiably. Frankly, she was surprised that he remembered her. She slid into the scarred wooden bench and saluted him. "Aye but that tends to be the way of it around this time eh?" she said with a wry grin. She continued to eye the man that was standing to the side of their table, seemingly at a loss as to what to do. Shrugging her shoulders she watched as an attractive, though unkempt woman made her way over to their now crowded table. She smiled appreciatively at her as she slid confidently into one of the spare benches.

Katylinn noted the change in the timbre of Nolen's voice and tore her gaze away from the mechanic to listen to the proposal in full. She merely nodded her head in response to the Captain's proposal. She had not expected him to go rogue after the war ended. A quiet ranch on one of the outer planets seemed more suiting to the quiet commanding presence that was now offering her a position on his crew. She looked around to see the looks on the two prospective members of the Firefly's crew. "A more secure location would be best, sir. This room has ears and not all of them friendly", she said as she motioned casually to a group of Alliance officers that had begun to pay attention to their table.

As she followed Nolen into one of the secluded booths, she extended her hand to the mechanic. "Katylinn Mersah, pleased to make your acquaintance", she said with an easy grin.

"Take a seat Ma'am. Okay now as you may have heard I have acquired a legal ship but have not a crew to fly her, that's where you come in. That is if you are in?"/"Okay shall we get some privacy?"

Charlie had just given a nod to both, getting up to follow the others. The movement of all four made one of the Alliance soldiers turn to keep an eye on them; she forced a disarmingly innocent smile and hoped like heck he'd leave them alone.

"Katylinn Mersah, pleased to make your acquaintance,"

She set her tankard down on the table, and tossed her backpack into the corner of the booth, before shaking Katylinn's hand with a smile. "Charlie, pleased to meet you, too." She bit back the habit of adding 'beautiful' to the end of the sentence. If Law was Browncoat, Mersah might be too, and Lord knows those types don't usually take kindly to that sorta thing.

She slid into the booth and dug around in a pocket of her backpack for a battered pack of smokes and a matchbook. "Forgive me for wanting to get this over and done with, but I'm not all too fond of hanging around Alliance. Since I don't think you need a resume, I'll just tell you what you need to know." Her voice was lilted with traces of many different accents from the rim planets, though the trained ear could probably tell it wasn't natural. "I was trained up in one of the best engineering schools in the 'verse. Spent the better part of the last eight years on different ships, either to fix it up and move on, or as a waged worker. I'm not adverse to a little dirty work now and then, but in the spirit of full disclosure I'll tell you now that you won't know my real name, but it shouldn't matter a mite since the ID I use passes even Alliance inspection."

She glanced towards the bar, scowled slightly and added, "Though let's be hoping they don't feel like checking now."

"Charlie, pleased to meet you, too."

Nol smiled as they started to introduce each other. "Well now that ears and eyes are not prying into our business and everything is shinny we can begin. You all might know but I am Nolan Law, Nol for short. And yes I am hiring a crew. Lets say I aim to misbehave. As I already know Katylinn from back in the war, if she agrees I would like to take you on as second in command" he said waiting for her response to his offer.



Nol smiled, having another ex military would help keep everything shinny on board. He listened to Charlie's story and smiled "Well then Charlie, it looks as though I have found a mechanic to keep us in the air and ..... taking from the look ya given to those gorram Alliance then I guess you have the right allegiances" he smiled looking over at the soldiers turning back to their drinks. Now he waited for Issac's story.

Katylinn smiled disarmingly at Charlie as she shook the woman's hand firmly. She had noticed a hesitation when she introduced herself and Katylinn was more than a little intrigued as to what it was. And there was nothing she loved more than a good mystery. It certainly seemed as though Charlie was going to live up to the challenge. She kept one eye on the Alliance soldiers that had begun to take a real interest in their gathering.

She held the thin door open to small room they had entered as she let the others in first. She left the door open a crack, so that tey could not be taken unawares. She admired Charlie's confidence and sureness in her abilities and her value in the crew. And the remarkable thing was, she was not exaggerating. Katylinn stepped out of the shadows she had been standing in so that the crew could clearly see her eyes as she addressed them, after their CO.

"I would be honoured sir. I am Katylinn Mersah. I fought for the Browncoats in the war, so clearly I have no love for the Alliance. I am primarily skilled in close combat, stealth, acquiring wanted goods, and the like. I run a tight ship, so I'll stand no dissent among the crew members. Now if you don't mind, sir; may I suggest we make our way to our new ship before those Alliance boys finish crossing the room to us?" she asked as she made eye contact with each of the three people in the room.

"What can I do for you, cutie?"

Isaac turned to the woman who had just cut him off, "Well nothing at the moment beautiful but maybe we can talk later" he spoke with a seductive tone and then grinned. Suddenly after a short talk,the brown coat got up a moved to another table to which everyone including Isaac followed and took a seat with the others, after waiting for a short amount of time and for the others to stop chatting, "ha, done!" He proclaimed as he looked at his drawing on the table he had done in beer that had been split, Isaac looked at the others.

"Sorry about that.....anyway,my name is Isaac Moss and my story is that I was a commando in the war, doesn't matter about what side and I am an expert in almost every weapon, I have a photographic memory and a perfect inner clock. After the war I worked as the pirate Thantos's planner,like heists and the such. So I guess you could say I'm good at what I do", Isaac took a deep breath and looked around, the alliance troops seemed to be getting edgey, "also I too believe its time to go" He spoke in a serious tone. Isaac then got up and flicked his jacket back on and rested his hand on his gun, "one way or another, this is gonna be fun".

Rumor had it the Nightfall was a friendly ship. Richie suspected he'd been told that by people who didn't know and didn't care. He'd handed out a few tracts to those he'd spoken to, but no one wanted to talk to a Shepherd, and so he'd moved on.

A cool beer purchased with a little of the money he had left from a generous donation, and a piece of nourishment bar kept him sated while he waited for the crew of the ship to come. If nothing else, he'd surely be able to get passage on their ship to their next destination. He was done with Greenleaf for now, the urge to move on making his bones almost itch.

Katylinn grinned at the cocky man beside her. "Careful what you wish for", she said enigmatically in her thick brogue before she turned back to the Captain. She had watched the cocky guy as he had been drawing on a napkin whilst they all said their piece. She was interested to hear his story from himself. She had already been able to dig up some information of her own from various placed and thus she was keeping a pretty good eye on the man. She looked at him sternly and shook her head. "As much as I hate the Alliance, we've quite a ways to go to get to the ship, so maybe alerting every guard between here and the docks is not the best of ideas eh?" she said as she slid out her falcata and used the blade to pry a board from the screen. Levering it out of place, she removed two more boards, exposing a small crawlspace corridor that lead to the streets.

She slid the blade back into its leather holster and rolled her eyes as they all stood around looking lost. "Well come on, move! We don't have all day. I want those boards back in place", she said impatiently as they began to sqeeze into the crawlspace. Once everyone was inside and moving slowly along she replaced the boards, using the tip of a throwing knife to pop the last board into place before clambering along the small space to the outside.

She fell the few feet to the ground, her feet hitting the mud with a dull thud. She straightened and looked at her new crewmates. If there was any doubt before, the Alliance's attention had just cemented their place among the crew of the Nightfall. 'What?" she asked as she slid the throwing knife back into the folds of her leather jacket, as she had not the space inside the walls to do it earlier.

Nol was the last down and they had already gone by the time the soldier got to the room. He ran down the corridor and entered the street through the sewer grate. "Alright then my new crew, shall we meet the ship you will be helping me with" he said then gave a quick glace at the door of the tavern. "Before they decide to look out here" he said as he started to move and blend in to the street crowd toward the dock.

Nol walked up to the ship and almost passed the man sitting there. "May I help ya?" he asked the man. As the man answered he noted that the man was a shepherd. "Oh Gorram, just what I need a man who talks with that backstabber" he said walking into the cargo bay. "So what can I do for you Shepherd?" he said without turning.

Their escape had been exciting for Charlie, who hadn't done anything particularly fun in a few weeks, at the very least. There was a something about screwing over the Alliance, however small the gesture, that drew out adrenaline and made everything seem a little brighter. Maybe it was getting one over on the people who near enough owned your soul.

"Nice knife," she quipped to Katylinn before following the Captain down the street.

The ship was beautiful. A wreck, by modern standards, but it was sturdy, a classic, and parts would be easy enough to find at a decent salvage yard. She didn't say a word, too focused on eyeing the ship, even going for a walk around to check it out from all angles. She was just a sucker for an older woman, metal or not.

"May I help ya?"/ "Oh Gorram, just what I need a man who talks with that backstabber"

So there's a fine art to travelling when you're a piss poor Shepherd in a small town, with few options for transport. You put on your garb - however much you hate it - get out your bible and appeal to the better nature of a good man or woman.

Or you meet someone like Law.

"My ears are sharp but even if they weren't, I guess you wanted me to hear that." he said with a half smile, the fingers of his free hand tugging at the front of his shirt collar. It was just too uncomfortable. "I'll make it easy for you. I need to travel to another planet. I don't know where yet, but I'm quiet and neat, and I won't bother your crew more than one small preachin'. You can even hide when you see me coming, if you like." He smiled wide and charming, rocking on his heels while he waited for an answer.

Katylinn flashed the new Engineer a grin as she commented on her knife. She just hoped she was referring to the throwing knives and not her falcata, there was a world of difference and she would tolerate no person calling the beautiful weapon a knife. She followed behind the rest of the crew, making sure they weren't followed by the Alliance as the Cap'n showed them to their new home.

"She's beautiful" Katylinn muttered as she ran her hand along the outside of the hull before stepping reverently inside. Though she was more than a little run-down, this ship was more than the sum of her parts. She was freedom made tangible and Katylinn sighed in pleasure as she knew she was home. She snapped out of her reverie and turned to Nol. "Sir what do we need to get her in the air?" she asked. Now that the Alliance was paying them undue attention, it would be wise to leave Greenleaf as soon as they could.

Isaac smiled "I'm never careful" he said quickly as he followed them, he spotted the knife, "and I can see you aren't eithier".

Isaac walked up to Nol, "I didn't think any of these were still around", Isaac said looking at the ship, "we need a few parts, I'm willing to fork out a bit of cash" Isaac looked around the dock and his hairs on the back of his neck started to go crazy, "anyway, we better do this quick bossman, as I don't wanna stick around. I've got a bad feeling about this" Isaac said laying his hand on his pistol which made him feel a little better.

Nolan looked at the man with not a hatred for him but what he believed in. During the war he like many other Brown Coats were believers too. That was till that fateful day in serenity valley where he was shot down trying to rescue the survivors at the front line. He unconsciously touched his leg that had been severely wounded in that crash, then snapped back into the present. He looked directly at the preacher. "You Shepherd can come on board but God stay out while I'm around, Just don't ask that is the offer. Take it or leave it?" he asked as the crew were admiring the ship. He turned to Isaac and Linn "She is ready to go, just needed a crew to fly her, Charlie I guess you would like to take the Engine room. Linn help me with the cargo before the Alliance get here Isaac to the pilot ship. Once I give you a signal punch it and get us out of here. Preacher if you may take your stuff in I will get to you shortly."

Linn nodded her head and adjusted her long leather coat so that the hilt of her Falacata was easily reached. Though they were supposedly on friendly ground, she was not going to take any risks. "Aye Sir" she said as she grabbed hold of a crate and started dragging it to the edge of the cargo hold where the nets would secure it against the walls. She was only half paying attention as she listened to the footfalls of the rest of the crew departing to the duties that Nol had assigned them. "Good thing I travel light", she said with a lopsided grin as she wrestled a rather large crate to the wall, a thin sheen of sweat on her brow from the strain of the exercise.

Nol smiled at Linn. "Yeah traveling during the war sort of does that to you. But, Nightfall, ere requires more gear to keep her happy" he said smiling as he dragged another create into the cargo bay securing it then hopping on the mule and slowly guided it into the bay. "Linn can you get that four wheeler and bring it in?" he asked her.

katylinn shrugged, "Aye but living on the streets had already done that" she said casually. She nodded her head and climbed up onto the seat of the four wheeler and did a donut, kicking up a cloud of dust before racing it into the cargo bay and reversing it into its spot near the entrace. "what?" she asked as she climbed off the mule and began to arrange the cargo Nol had offloaded and secured it with the nets to the cargo bay walls.
"So where are my quarters, Cap'n?" she asked casually as she continued securing the nets around the cargo Nol situated.

"You Shepherd can come on board but God stay out while I'm around, Just don't ask that is the offer. Take it or leave it?"/"...Preacher if you may take your stuff in I will get to you shortly."

And that, Richie supposed, was that. He picked up his bag, headed up the hatch that served as a ramp, too, and stood there in the cargo bay of the ship. He had been on many ships before but never a firefly. Infamous though they were, they were considered old enough to be obsolete.

He was wondering whether he should go and explore when a woman gestured for him to follow her. With not many other options, he did. She lead him across the cargo bay, past what seemed to be an infirmary and sitting area, to the passenger quarters at the back.

"You have your pick of the rooms, Shepherd." She wiped a palm on her coveralls and offered it to him. "Charlie. I'm the mechanic."

Richie accepted the offered hand, shaking it firmly. "Richie Quentin. Though the Captain seems unwilling to listen, my services are available to the entire crew."

He watched as Charlie laughed and headed back past him, taking the stairs up towards what he supposed was the engine room. Strange woman. He went into his quarters, closed the door, and set about looking up bible verses that would appeal to the crew of a ship like this.

Isaac turned to Nol, "thats fine with me, however I still better get some action" Isaac said to Nol, flashing him a cocky smile. Isaac walked passed Charlie and Richie to get onto the ship, "C" he nodded to Charlie as he said it, then he nodded to the Shepard, damn Shepards. Isaac spend some time pouring over the ships details and the bridge, taking in all the info he could, finally he decided to met with Nol.

After walking around Isaac spotted Nol, "yo Bossman, I was thinking" Isaac said as he walked towards Nol and leaned up agaisnt the wall, "We should have secert compartments installed in the ship to hide weapons in, I think one in the small rooms and three in the larger ones cause I mean how many stories have you heard of someone being disarmed and shot on their own ship, so whadda think?" Isaac asked full of confidence that he would get the ok, he pulled out out coin and flipped it in the air.

Nol smiled and was about to show Linn after they had finished loading everything when Isaac came in.

"yo Bossman, I was thinking"/"We should have secert compartments installed in the ship to hide weapons in, I think one in the small rooms and three in the larger ones cause I mean how many stories have you heard of someone being disarmed and shot on their own ship, so whadda think?"

"Oh no, If you were thinking we all better run and hide" he said joking around with his new pilot. "Actually That is a good idea there Isaac. Can I leave you in charge of that?" he said to the man nodding. He got a yes in reply and then Nol turned back to Linn, "Follow me" he said heading for the crew quarters. Once there he pointed to six little doors and said "That ones mine but the rest are up for grabs" he said pointing to the one marked Cap'n as his.
